Nogentais: the life of a
château
This
pastoral Nogentais really is the land of romanticism.
It's a country of golden
fields that has given rise
to famous adventures, and even to everlasting love.
Héloïse and Abélard didn't ….get
it wrong. The château
de la Motte Tilly was used as décor
by Milos Forman, the film director, who came to film
a number of scenes about the libertine Vermont de
Laclos. One has to concede that this 18th century
château, with its considerable elegance, with
the richness of its décors and its huge French-style
gardens, had everything needed to charm the viewer.
And it's also in this region that Alfred Boucher,
an accomplished sculptor, was born. He was a contemporary
of Rodin and Camille Claudel, a great humanist and
defender of penniless artists. A few of the works
of the founder of La Ruche, in Paris, can be seen
at the Paul Dubois-Alfred Boucher museum at Nogent-sur-Seine.
